Our Mission

“At the Ukrainian Baptist Church*, our mission is to embody and spread the Gospel of Christ to the world, while maintaining our Ukrainian heritage and community. We are dedicated to promoting peace in Ukraine and extending our compassionate outreach to those affected by the conflict. As a spiritual home away from home for the Ukrainian community in Minnesota, we are committed to offering support, refuge, and a sense of belonging to Ukrainians during these challenging times. Our efforts include providing aid and resources to those in Ukraine, as well as supporting our local community through various programs and initiatives. Join us in our endeavor to spread love, offer comfort, and be a light of Christ in a world in need of healing and reconciliation. Together, we can make a difference, both in our local Minnesota community and across the globe.”

*Ukrainian Baptist Church is the name we use publicly; our official name is First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church of Minneapolis.

Doctrine

Introduction

The First Ukrainian Baptist Church, rooted in the rich tapestry of our Slavic heritage, is committed to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Holy Scriptures. We stand firm in the conservative Baptist tradition, holding to the historic doctrines of the faith, while embracing all people with the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

The Scriptures

We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God, infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice. The Scriptures are central to our teachings and the final authority in all doctrinal and moral matters.

The Nature of God

We affirm our belief in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is sovereign in creation, providence, and redemption.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, atoning death on the cross, bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His imminent return in power and glory.

Salvation

Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It is a gift from God, not a result of our good works or human efforts. Repentance and faith are the appropriate responses to the Gospel, leading to regeneration by the Holy Spirit.

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

We practice believer’s baptism by immersion, in obedience to our Lord’s command. The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience and remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice for us.

Christian Conduct

Christians are called to live a life of righteousness, reflecting the character of Jesus Christ. We believe in the sanctity of human life, the sanctity of marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman, and the moral and ethical standards set forth in the Scriptures.

Inclusion and Diversity

While holding firmly to our conservative Baptist doctrine, we celebrate our Slavic heritage and extend a warm welcome to all people, regardless of their background. We believe that the Gospel transcends cultural and ethnic boundaries and that our diversity enriches our fellowship and worship.
